At Cherry Burton C of E Primary School, we take pride in our school and encourage all pupils to look smart, neat and ready to learn. Our uniform creates a sense of belonging and reflects the high expectations we have for all members of our school community.

We ask parents and carers to support us by ensuring that children attend school wearing the correct uniform each day.

We are committed to keeping our uniform simple, affordable and accessible. Only our navy blue school sweatshirt/jumper and cardigan are required to carry the Cherry Burton school logo. All other items can be purchased from any retailer, provided that they meet the requirements below.

Everyday School Uniform

Pupils should wear:

• Navy blue school sweatshirt/jumper or cardigan with the Cherry Burton school logo

• Plain white polo shirt or white shirt

• Grey trousers, skirt or pinafore

• Plain black, sensible school shoes

Summer Uniform

During warmer weather, pupils may also wear:

• Blue checked summer dress with a navy blue school cardigan; or

• Grey school shorts with a white polo shirt/shirt and navy blue school sweatshirt/jumper or cardigan

During periods of particularly hot or adverse weather, the school may temporarily adjust uniform expectations to ensure that children are comfortable and safe.

PE Kit

For PE, pupils should wear:

• Plain navy blue T-shirt

• Plain navy blue or black shorts

• Suitable trainers or sandshoes for outdoor activities

During colder weather, pupils may wear a plain navy blue or black tracksuit, jogging bottoms or sports leggings for outdoor PE.

PE clothing does not need to carry the school logo and may be purchased from any retailer.

We ask that PE clothing is practical, comfortable and appropriate for physical activity. Large designer logos or prominent branding should be avoided.

Jewellery and Watches

For reasons of safety, jewellery should be kept to a minimum.

• Small stud earrings may be worn.

• A simple watch may be worn.

• Smart watches, or any watch/device with a camera or recording function, must not be worn in school.

• Other jewellery should not be worn unless agreed with school for religious, cultural or medical reasons.

Jewellery may need to be removed for PE and other activities where it could present a safety risk.

Hair and Appearance

Hair should be neat and suitable for school. Long hair should be tied back where necessary for PE, practical activities or for safety.

We expect pupils' overall appearance to be appropriate for a primary school environment and consistent with our expectation that children arrive smart and ready to learn.

Reasonable adjustments will always be considered where appropriate, including for religious, cultural, medical or SEND-related needs.

Buying School Uniform

Branded Cherry Burton school sweatshirts/jumpers and cardigans are available from H & K Embroidery in Driffield. https://handk-2.myshopify.com 

All other uniform and PE items may be purchased from any retailer and do not need to carry the school logo.

Optional branded items, including hoodies, PE tops, book bags and PE kit bags, may also be available from our uniform supplier. These are optional items and families are not required to purchase branded versions.

Pre-Loved and Second-Hand Uniform

We want to make school uniform as affordable and sustainable as possible for all our families.

Good-quality pre-loved school uniform is available free of charge from school. Families are welcome to contact the school office if they require a particular item or size. Requests will be handled sensitively and there is no requirement for families to explain why they would like to access pre-loved uniform.

At selected points during the school year, including around the end and beginning of the school year, we will also make pre-loved uniform available for families to browse and take.

We welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform that children have outgrown. Donations can be brought to the school office.

Please help us to reuse, recycle and pass on uniform wherever possible.

Our Expectations

We appreciate the support of parents and carers in maintaining the high standards we have for our pupils.

Our expectation is simple: children should come to school clean, smart, appropriately dressed and wearing the correct school uniform.

Uniform should be practical for a busy primary school day and should allow children to learn, play and participate fully in school life.

If a family is experiencing difficulty providing the required uniform, we encourage them to contact the school. We will always work sensitively with families so that the cost of uniform does not become a barrier to a child's attendance, participation or sense of belonging at Cherry Burton.
