Computing

At Cherry Burton Primary School, we believe that a high-quality computing education equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. From Nursery to Year 6, we aim to give all children the knowledge, skills, and confidence to engage safely, responsibly, and creatively with technology.

Our intent is that pupils will:

  1. Develop Digital Literacy:

    • Understand how technology is used in everyday life.

    • Become confident in using a range of digital devices, tools, and software.

    • Learn to create, organise, and share digital content effectively.

  2. Build Computational Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills:

    • Learn to plan, write, and debug programs using block-based and text-based coding.

    • Understand algorithms and sequences of instructions in computing and real-life contexts.

    • Explore pattern recognition, prediction, and simple machine learning concepts (AI), preparing them for the digital world.

  3. Explore Data and AI:

    • Collect, analyse, and interpret data to solve problems and make decisions.

    • Understand how artificial intelligence works and where it is used in everyday life.

    • Reflect on the impact of AI on society, including ethical considerations, fairness, and bias.

  4. Stay Safe Online:

    • Learn about the risks and benefits of the online world through Project Evolve, from Nursery to Year 6.

    • Understand how to protect personal information, navigate digital relationships, and recognise online risks.

    • Develop critical thinking about online content, social media, and AI-driven recommendations.

  5. Be Creators and Innovators:

    • Use technology to express ideas, create digital media, and solve problems creatively.

    • Apply computing skills across the curriculum and in real-life contexts.

    • Be curious, resilient, and collaborative learners in both physical and digital environments.

By the time pupils leave Cherry Burton Primary School, they will:

  • Be confident, safe, and responsible users of technology.

  • Understand how computing and AI impact their lives and society.

  • Have the skills to continue learning and innovating in an increasingly digital world.
