Cherry Burton Primary School Curriculum Vision Statement

At Cherry Burton Primary School, we believe that every child should leave us curious, confident, and capable, equipped with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to thrive in life. Our curriculum is designed to inspire a lifelong thirst for learning, nurturing children who are enthusiastic readers, fluent mathematicians, creative thinkers, and compassionate citizens.

We want every child to:

  • Develop a love of literature and language, exploring stories, poetry and non-fiction that open minds and imaginations.

  • Become confident mathematicians, able to reason, problem-solve, and apply their understanding to real-life situations.

  • Experience learning beyond the classroom, including Forest School and hands-on exploration, fostering curiosity, resilience and practical skills.

  • Engage with a broad, diverse curriculum, discovering the lives and achievements of artists, designers, scientists, and other significant individuals who have shaped our world.

  • Understand history and geography, learning about the story of Britain, local history, and global cultures, while confidently using maps, atlases, and digital resources to explore the wider world.

  • Apply knowledge and skills across subjects, following the aims of the National Curriculum to develop fluency in reading, writing and mathematics, scientific understanding, computing skills, and physical and creative abilities.

  • Grow socially, morally, spiritually and culturally, reflecting the school’s ethos and Christian values, preparing them to contribute positively to modern Britain and the wider world.

Our curriculum is inclusive, ambitious and connected, giving children rich experiences, memorable learning, and the confidence to question, explore and create. By the time they leave Cherry Burton, we want children to be lifelong learners, ready to tackle challenges, appreciate beauty and achievement, and make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.
