At Cherry Burton Primary School, our Eco Council wants to help our school and the planet become greener, cleaner, and happier! We are working together to:
Learn about climate change and the environment so we understand how to take care of the Earth.
Reduce waste and recycle more. We are starting battery recycling because batteries contain materials that can be harmful to the environment if thrown in the bin.
Join the School Cycle program by collecting plastic bottle tops. For every 1kg of tops we send, we receive 250 Earth Tokens, which we can use to get furniture for our school grounds made from recycled tops.
Increase biodiversity in our school grounds by planting flowers, shrubs, and trees to help wildlife like birds, bees, and insects.
Save energy and water, care for nature, and look after the animals, plants, and trees around our school.
Encourage everyone in school to make eco-friendly choices and show that even small actions can make a big difference.
We want Cherry Burton to be a school that takes action for the planet today and for the future!
We are taking part in SchoolCycled to help our school and the planet by learning about recycling, sustainability and how our everyday actions can make a difference. SchoolCycled is a programme by MYGroup that encourages us to collect plastic bottle caps that would normally go to landfill or incineration, and turn them into something useful. As part of the scheme we get free teaching resources and lessons about recycling and the environment to help us understand why this matters.
Everyone – pupils, families and staff – can bring in plastic bottle caps to school. For every kilogram of bottle caps we collect, the school earns Earth Tokens, which we can then exchange for furniture, play equipment, signage or other recycled plastic items made from the plastic we’ve collected. It’s a fun way to recycle, learn and earn rewards that benefit our school while helping protect the environment!
