Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Intervention
What is ELSA Intervention?
The Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) intervention provides targeted emotional and wellbeing support for children and their families within school. Delivered by Sarah Wilson a trained ELSA, the intervention offers a safe, nurturing space where children can explore and develop their emotional understanding, resilience, and coping strategies.
Support is provided on a one-to-one basis and interventions run for 6–10 weeks, with weekly sessions lasting approximately 20–30 minutes. Collaboration with parents/carers is paramount to ensure the child is at the centre as well as involving other agencies for the most accurate and holistic approach. Progress is monitored throughout the intervention to inform next steps and ensure positive outcomes for pupils’ wellbeing and engagement in learning.
What environment do we provide?
The Rainbow Room is a calm, nurturing space designed to help children and adults feel relaxed, safe, and supported. Set away from the main school building, it offers a quieter environment where pupils can take time away from the busy school day. The room provides a range of supportive activities, including games, creative opportunities, educational interventions, and a quiet area for reflection and relaxation. Soft furnishings and calming colours have been carefully chosen to promote a sense of comfort, wellbeing, and emotional safety.
Who can access the intervention?
ELSA intervention is available to all our children who attend Cherry Burton Primary School. The support is tailored to the needs of individual. The support is offered for school related issues however home based needs are also considered.
Support for Families
We are committed to working in partnership with our families to offer the right support at the right time. We work closely with the local Children’s Centre, the Schools and Community Officer, and the Mental Health Support Team to provide coordinated and effective support. Where needed, we can signpost families to more specialist services and agencies. We also work collaboratively with our local feeder schools to ensure continuity of care and support for children and their families.
