Online Safety

At our school, we believe it is essential to teach children how to stay safe, responsible and respectful online so they can confidently navigate an increasingly digital world. Online safety is taught through a carefully sequenced curriculum using Project Evolve, which is based on the Department for Education’s statutory guidance Education for a Connected World. This ensures that learning is progressive and age-appropriate, supporting children to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to manage online risks and make informed choices as they grow.

Project Evolve is organised into clear strands and units, including Self-image and Identity, Online Relationships, Online Reputation, Online Bullying, Privacy and Security, Managing Online Information, Copyright and Ownership, and Health, Wellbeing and Lifestyle. Through these units, pupils learn how to protect personal information, build positive and respectful online relationships, understand the impact of their digital footprint, recognise misinformation, and know how to seek help if something online makes them feel worried or unsafe. Key messages are reinforced through themed events such as Safer Internet Day and Anti-Bullying Week, which enhance our curriculum and promote whole-school discussion.

In addition, elements of online safety are embedded within our Jigsaw PSHE programme, supporting children’s personal, social and emotional development. Through Jigsaw, pupils explore issues such as peer pressure, resilience, respect and empathy, helping them to understand how their behaviour online affects themselves and others. By combining Project Evolve, Jigsaw and whole-school events, we aim to ensure our pupils are well prepared to thrive safely and responsibly in a connected world.
