SEND Information

At Cherry Burton Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child thrives, whatever their individual learning needs. We follow the SEND Code of Practice (2015), which emphasises early identification, high-quality teaching, and close partnership with families so that children can achieve the best possible outcomes.

Our ethos is “Learn anything, fly anywhere”, rooted in our whole-school vision of “Roots to grow and wings to fly.” This reflects our commitment to nurturing every child, giving them strong foundations while empowering them to develop confidence, independence, and ambition—academically, socially, and emotionally.

We are a fully inclusive school, where difference is valued and support is tailored to meet individual needs. For children requiring more specialist provision, our 8-place Enhanced Resource Provision (ERP), The Ark, offers bespoke learning in a calm, supportive environment. The Ark includes sensory rooms, breakout spaces, and personalised learning approaches, ensuring that children can engage meaningfully with learning and make progress at their own pace.

Across the whole school, we promote inclusive practice through:

  • High-quality, differentiated classroom teaching as the first response to SEND

  • Nurture UK approaches to support emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn

  • ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) provision for targeted social and emotional support

  • Sensory circuits and movement-based interventions to support regulation and focus

  • Widget symbol resources, used across classrooms and displays to promote communication, accessibility, and autism-friendly learning environments

  • Strong partnerships with parents, external professionals, and support services

As stated in the SEND Code of Practice,

“High-quality teaching, differentiated for individual pupils, is the first step in responding to pupils who have or may have SEND.”

At Cherry Burton Primary School, inclusion is not an add-on—it is central to who we are. By working together, we ensure every child has the support they need to learn anything and fly anywhere.
