Pupil Parliament

At our school, we value pupil voice and believe that children should play an active role in shaping school life. Our Pupil Parliament gives pupils the opportunity to share ideas, represent their classmates and contribute to decisions that help improve our school.

At the start of each academic year, we hold a democratic election in every class. Pupils who wish to stand as representatives prepare and deliver a short speech explaining why they would be a good choice for the role. Classes then take part in a secret ballot, where every pupil has the opportunity to vote. The candidate with the most votes is elected to represent their class in the Pupil Parliament.

Members of the Pupil Parliament meet regularly with staff to discuss ideas, raise suggestions from their classes and work on projects that support the whole school community. Their work includes helping to implement our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) programme, carrying out surveys with pupils and staff to gather opinions, and even preparing pitches to companies to help secure resources that will improve playtimes for everyone.

Through the Pupil Parliament, pupils learn about democracy, responsibility and teamwork while developing confidence in sharing their views and representing others.

Our Pupil Parliament have said;

We are the Pupil Parliament. Our job is to be the voice of the children in our school. We listen to ideas from our classmates and help think of ways to make our school even better. We also help organise events to raise money and share our ideas with teachers and school governors.

We were chosen through an election. First, we wrote a manifesto explaining why we would be good representatives. Then our classmates voted to choose who they wanted to represent them.

Being part of the Pupil Parliament helps us learn about democracy and how everyone’s voice can help make positive changes in our school.
